Early Wickets put Proteas under pressure, South Africia's innings got off shaky start after they elected to bat first in the second ODI at Mackay. Skipper Adien Markram fell for a duck while Ryan Rickelton managed only eight. Tony de Zorzi tried to give a lift of 38 runs, but South Africa was at 90 for 3, the visitors were struggling.

Breetzke and Stubbs rebuilt the inngins. Matthew Breetzle and Tristan Stubbs joined forces to stage a much needed recovery. Breetzle played fluently, scoring 88 off 78 balls with eight boundaries and two sixes. Stubbs, meanwhile, anchored the innings with a composed 74 from 87 deliveries, including three fours and a six. Their 89 run stand gave South Africa stability and hope of reaching a strong total.

Momentum Lost After Breakthroughs

The dismissal of Breetzle by Nathan Ellis shifted momentum back to Australia. Dewald Brevis fell cheaply for one, and though Wiaan Mulder added 26, the Proteas struggled to maintain the tempo. Stubbs was dismissed by Adam Zampa in the 44th over, halting South Africa's push towards 300.

Lower-order resistance adds crucial runs despite the setbacks. Keshav Maharaj chipped in with a valuable unbeaten 22, ensuring South  Africa crossed the 270 mark before being bowled out for 277 in 49.1 overs.

Australia's blowing attack shared the Workload effectively. Leg spinner Adam Zampa with 3 for 63, while  Nathan Ellis, Marcus Labuschagne, and Xavier Bartlett grabbed two each. Josh Hazlewood also contributed to the scalp.
