Recently, there was a stir in the tennis circles when the news came that Emma Raducanu has hired a new coach. This seems to be a strategic move, as Francisco Roig, who is a Spaniard, has helped Rafael Nadal win all of the 22 Grand Slam Titles that he has today. Moving into the next week of the US Open, both of the duo have their second tournament together. Raducanu is expecting Roig to give her a push-up in the upcoming matches, where a tough fight is expected. A former Spanish number two, Feliciano Lopez, who was also under the coaching of Riog for multiple years, told BBC Sport, "Francis is the best coach I have worked with so far".

The Grand Comeback of Raducanu and a New Innings with Francisco Roig

Raducanu had missed a major chunk of the 2023 season following an operation which she had on her wrist and ankle because of the injuries. Since then, there has been no looking back as Raducanu built her career quite smoothly despite the major injuries and the perception that she might not have a comeback, but she did prove everyone wrong. Raducanu will have major gains this season with especially with Roig, as he focuses more on the technicalities, and the partnership looks good so far with the Cincinnati Open being a clear testimony. Raducanu has had a rough patch with her ex-coach, Mark Petchey. Both of them worked for a brief spell of 4 months from the Miami Open to Wimbledon, where Raducanu has had some good results. Now Raducanu is expecting to boost her performance with one of the best, her newly appointed coach Spanish dragon, Francisco Roig. Raducanu has had off-and-on moments on the court, and also one famous one when she was unhappy with a child crying during her losing match against Sabalenka.

Cincinnati Debut Open with Roig

With a history of numerous coaches in the past, Roig is a new feather to the wing and also the first experience with Raducanu at the mixed doubles in the Cincinnati Open. Her positive attitude in the court in the last few months and constant wins, keeping the momentum, Roig is poised to give her more traction. The former has signed a contract with Roig until the end of the year. The partnership started with a long training on Tuesday, which is a good start following her morning warring session with Rebecca Sramkova of Slovakia.

Chemistry On and Off the Court - A New Innings of Raducanu

Having really good rankings at the WTA with no 33 and leading with 26 in the WTA Race. She is quite hopeful about working with Roig after mentioning it in an interview," I think I can improve a lot on my shots, just the quality of them". In professional tennis, when the coach and the player automatically spend a lot in and out of the court, including travelling for tours and matches, intensive practice sessions ultimately lead to the bonding and chemistry of the player and the coach, and such is the nature of the sport. So far, there has been quite a good progress in terms of the progression in matches, including the Cincinnati Open and the US Open.
