Game of Thrones fans, it's your time to rejoice! A brand-new spinoff series of the beloved fantasy drama is set to make its debut around early January next year. HBO, the production company and network behind GoT, has confirmed the news and has also released some exciting promotional material.
In a joint Instagram post, the official handles of HBO and Game of Thrones shared the much-awaited first look from the spinoff series, officially titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. "A Tall Tale That Became Legend," read a tagline on the poster.
The makers further wrote in the caption: "This Winter, Spring is Coming. #AKnightoftheSevenKingdoms premieres January, only on @hbomax. #NYCC."
Game of Thrones is already one of the most beloved web series worldwide, and it was only a matter of time before eager fans expressed their excitement and delight in the comments section. One user commented, "My favourite Game of Thrones story right here. Can't wait!!!" while another wrote: "Everybody wake up, WINTER IS COMING."
While Warner Bros Discovery executives had confirmed earlier this year that the second HBO prequel to Game of Thrones (after House of the Dragon) was to arrive in the latter half of 2025, unexpected delays pushed the date further into early 2026.
The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will take its source inspiration from George R. R. Martin's second novella "The Hedge Knight," which draws focus on the adventures of Duncan the Tall, a courageous knight to be played by Peter Claffey, and Dexter Sol Ansell's character "Egg," the former's young squire. Set nearly 100 years before Game of Thrones and 100 years after the events of House of the Dragon, The Knight will showcase Duncan and Egg's journey as they encounter many of the familiar faces of the Targaryen Dynasty, including (but certainly not limited to) Prince Aerion Targaryen, Prince Baelor Targaryen, and Prince Maekar Targaryen. Dangerous exploits, powerful foes, and great destinies await the heroes.
