A sad day for Indian football as they conceded a defeat to Singapore with a 1-2 score. This also puts them out of the race for the Qualifiers for the AFC Asian Cup 2027. The Head Coach post-match sounded disappointed as he said, “We had the chances to finish the game in the first half. You can’t afford to waste opportunities at this level. Our focus and discipline need to improve.” Sunil too sounded frustrated as he said, “It hurts deeply. We gave everything, but simple mistakes cost us. Indian football must learn to grow from this.” This has completely dented India's prospects of playing in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
Song Ui-young’s Brace Sinks India as Singapore Ends Their Asian Cup Dream
India was, as it was, in a very bad space with 2 draws and 2 losses out of the 4 matches they had played. They only had 2 points secured from the matches. It was indeed very disappointing to look at it as an Indian football fan. The match started with the first goal from Lallianzuala Chhangte. It was a good start to the match, and it looked like India had momentum and could take the lead forward. This was, however, just the start as the equaliser came in the 44th minute from Song Ui-young. The score became levelled, and it was 1-1 with half-time coming in. In the second half, it was partially in India's control, and then the final dramatic goal by Song Ui-young in the 58th minute sealed the match for Singapore.
The classic saga ended with a defeat for India. This kicked them out of the qualifier race, and they are no longer eligible for it. Well, they did try their best, but in the end, Singapore emerged victorious. Chhetri and the squad need to come back stronger from this and look forward to their next matches. For Singapore, it was a glorious win after this match.
