Everyone is eagerly awaiting for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, and according to franchise officials, after a discussion with the BCCI, the IPL auction is expected to occur between December 13 and 15. However, the IPL Governing Council didn’t confirm the exact date officially. But teams are expected to confirm their players during mid-December ahead of the new season.

Retention Deadline and Squad Plans

Only a few days are left for the auction, and the retention deadline is set for November 15. Franchises must submit the details of players they plan to retain or release within this time. The deadline is important for the team to finalize their plans, budget, and preparations for the auction. The team is not expected to make crucial changes this season, even though the teams that finished last season at the bottom, like  Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), may make changes to their squads.

Players Likely to be Released or Retained

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)  players, such as Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran, and Devon Conway, are reportedly on the release list. After, all-rounder R Ashwin's retirement from the IPL, CSK has gained INR 9.75 crore in their budget. At the same time, Rajasthan Royals might release their two Sri Lankan spinners, Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana. They are interested in keeping Sanju Samson unless they get another captain. The return of former Sri Lankan player Kumar Sangakkara as head coach could impact these decisions.

Players in High Demand

Other pivotal players who are likely to be in demand are T Natarajan, Mitchell Starc, Akash Deep, Mayank Yadav, and David Miller. Likewise, Australian player Cameron Green, who missed the last auction due to his injury, will be one of the hopes in 2026. The auction is considered a key moment for franchises to improve their squads, fix weak spots, and fight to become champions of IPL 2026.

Unlike the previous editions, this time the auction was not scheduled to be held overseas, and it might be held in India. As the event is approaching and teams are set to plan.  Cricket fans are excited to witness the upcoming IPL 2026 auction and see the new changes.
