JD(U) candidate from Mokama Anant Singh has been arrested by Patna Police in connection with the death of Jan Suraaj worker Dularchand Yadav, who died during an election campaign clash earlier this week. The arrest comes amid rising political tension in the region ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls.
A police team led by Patna SSP reached Singh’s residence in Kargil Market, Barh, on Saturday evening and later took him into custody. He has now been brought to Patna for interrogation.
Jan Suraaj Responds to Arrest
Reacting to the development, Jan Suraaj Party’s Mokama candidate Piyush Priyadarshi said the arrest was necessary but delayed.
“This is a good gesture, but it would have been good had they taken action sooner. Today, he was moving around in a convoy of 50 vehicles and even participated in election campaigning. When an FIR was registered against him, he should have been arrested sooner... But better late than never. What is important now is how the police investigate the whole case... It is a relief for his family,” Priyadarshi said in a telephonic conversation with ANI.
What Happened to Dularchand Yadav?
Yadav, a supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party, sustained severe injuries, including multiple rib fractures and a ruptured lung during a confrontation between rival campaign groups in Mokama.
The post-mortem report did not find any gunshot wounds, contradicting initial claims circulating on social media. The nature of injuries has intensified debate over how the violence unfolded.

Three FIRs, Political Blame Game Begins
Police have filed three separate FIRs in the case:
-
One by Yadav’s family, naming Anant Singh and four others
-
Another by a rival faction
-
And a third FIR registered by the police on the basis of their own investigation
Two arrests had already been made before Singh’s custody on Saturday.
Singh has denied the allegations, claiming he was targeted due to political rivalry. He accused former RJD MP Surajbhan Singh, whose wife Veena Devi is contesting the same seat. “This is a conspiracy. We were campaigning peacefully when another group attacked our vehicles,” Anant Singh said before being taken away by police.
Election Commission Seeks Detailed Report
The Election Commission has asked district authorities to submit a full report on the incident. On Friday, Patna DM and SSP reviewed the situation on the ground and instructed all parties to maintain law and order as polling approaches.
