Netflix's animated movie KPop Demon Hunters, which saw record-breaking success, is the year's breakout winner. The film's tracks have gone viral, dominating music charts worldwide and surpassing the likes of several well-known celebrities. Rumour had it that the movie will be renewed for two sequels: a musical adaptation and a live-action one. The film's creators have, however, finally dispelled a major rumour, ruling out the idea of seeing the Saja Boys and HUNTRIX members in live-action, human form.
The developers of KPop Demon Hunters have refuted rumours regarding the alleged live-action project.
Maggie Kang, the creator behind the animated characters, Jinu, Mystery, Abby, Romance, and Baby, Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, has now released an update following considerable discussion regarding the possibility of a real-life versions of these much beloved characters. Kang tells BBC News: “There’s so many elements of the tone and the comedy that are so suited for animation. It’s really hard to imagine these characters in a live-action world. It would feel too grounded. So, totally it wouldn’t work for me.”
Co-creater Chris Appelhans also shared his views on the debate. “One of the great things about animation is that you make these composites of impossibly great attributes. Rumi can be this goofy comedian and then singing and doing a spinning back-kick a second later and then free-falling through the sky.” He went on to say that the exaggerated motions in the film are what made it so enjoyable, and that their artwork would become "stilted" if this were done.
Many K-pop fans' hearts have been deflated by this new development, but the idea of which K-drama actor would be best suited for these characters' parts is still alive and well. However, it is officially confirmed that Kpop Demon Hunters sequel production is underway. The prospective sequel is probably going to go into the characters' possible backstories.
