Mohammed Shami Breaks Silence on Australia ODI Snub: ‘I’m Fit and Ready to Play’

Mohammed Shami, the senior Indian fast bowler, has finally broken his silence about his exclusion from India’s upcoming ODI tour of Australia. Shami, 35, expressed his disappointment over the selection decision and clarified that he is entirely fit and ready to bounce back on the field. He further added that he has been participating in the domestic matches without any issues regarding his fitness.

The squad for the upcoming Australia series was announced by Ajit Agarkar earlier this week. When questioned about why Shami’s not part of the squad, Agarkar responded that there was “no update” on the bowler’s fitness. However, the claims were rejected by Shami; he retorted that his performance in the domestic cricket should have been enough proof of his readiness for the white ball tournament. “If I can play four-day Ranji matches, I can also play white-ball cricket." Shami further discarded the speculation about the fitness issues. “There are no fitness issues. I’ve been bowling long spells and performing for Bengal."

Shami expressed his disappointment with the selection panel. ”It’s not my job to give fitness updates to the selectors. My responsibility is to stay fit and perform whenever I get a chance, which I have done."

In the past few years, Shami was seen struggling with recurring injuries, including ankle and knee problems that required him to undergo surgery. With his recurring surgeries, the selectors can be seen taking a cautious approach. Despite his omission, Shami let his composure speak. “Selection is not in my hands,” he added. “I will continue to focus on my game and stay ready.” Shami stands as one of the most experienced pacers, with more than 400 international wickets across formats under his name.
