South Africa Crush Sri Lanka to Secure Semi-Final Spot in ICC Women’s World Cup 2025

Just a few days away from witnessing the champion of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, Australia has already entered the semi-final, and now South Africa has also sealed a spot in the semi-final. Yesterday, at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, South Africa crushed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets (via DLS method) and secured their place in the semi-final. South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, earned the Player of the Match award for her effective performance against Sri Lanka.

 

South Africa Dominates Sri Lanka with 10-Wicket Victory

In the 18th match of the tournament between Sri Lanka and South Africa, Sri Lanka batted first and posted 105/7 in 20 overs after the game was reduced by rain. In response, South Africa’s openers Laura Wolvaardt (60*, 47 balls) and Tazmin Brits (55*, 42 balls) chased down the target in just 14.5 overs. Their effortless batting performance showcased South Africa’s dominance.

South Africa’s bowlers, especially Nonkululeko Mlaba and Masabata Klaas, made strong contributions. Mlaba took 3 wickets for 30 runs, and Klaas claimed 2 wickets for 18 runs. Sri Lanka were 46/2 after 12 overs but managed only 59 more runs in the final 8 overs. By taking early wickets before the rain delay, the Proteas gained an advantage. They controlled Sri Lanka’s batters and kept them under pressure.
