A very important day in the US Open. Louis Armstrong Stadium saw a second encounter between the Italian Lorenzo Musetti as he locked horns with Belgian David Goffin, and this match will be a long remembered one. This match was a classic reflection of control and flashes of resistance. The 22-year-old Italian Musetti continued his usual good form that he has been having this whole tournament as he defeated the experienced Goffin, and it was a shocker, especially when Goffin himself has a very clean record.

Musetti’s Precision and Backhand Mastery Seal First Set Against Goffin

From the very start, it could be seen, Musetti looked very sharp and confident, and this helped him gain more traction from the onset itself as he struck the ball with precision from both the wings. Even though it looked like a one-sided match but the first set was competitive as Goffin had the serve quite well controlled under him. He used his famous and his trademark counterpunching style. This, however, didn't stop Musetti as he too used his versatile one-handed backhand that helped him to open the court. At 4-4 also Musetti took some tough serves, finally breaking in by ending it 6-4. 

Musetti Dominates with Confidence and Flair to Cruise into Third Round

The second set was pretty a Musetti show as we call it, and no doubt the win in the first set gave a surge in his confidence and shifted the momentum to his side completely, and Goffin struggled to keep pace. There was a clear look on the Belgian's face as Musetti dictated almost every rally. It was a bagel and a very rare 6-0, which had put even Goffin searching for answers. In the third set, there was an aggressive behaviour from Goffin trying to take a lead. Musetti took very little time to take a 4-1 lead. Even when it was 5-2, Musetti did not bow down but rather showcased his calmness and confidence, closing the match with a powerful serve and a deft touch at the nets. With this win, Musetti advances to the third round.
